Prioritisation process for the development of national standards and guidance

Status: Published on

HIQA uses a prioritisation process for the development and updating of national standards and guidance for health and social care services.

This prioritisation process assists the identification of priority areas for potential national standards and guidance that best address the health and social care needs of the Irish population and which have the greatest impact in improving the outcomes of people using health and social care services.

Proposals are assessed in key areas of impact including; potential for improved experience and outcomes for service-users, evidence of effectiveness, alignment with national policy and legislation, and feasibility of implementation.

A programme advisory group for this process comprises key stakeholders from the Department of Health, the Department of Children, disability, equality and integration, Tusla, National Patient Forum, Health Service Executive and HIQA’s Regulation Directorate.
