This report provides an overview of HIQA’s monitoring of public acute hospitals in 2018. HIQA monitors public hospitals against national standards to promote continual, sustained quality improvement in healthcare services. During the year, HIQA carried out 38 inspections in public acute hospitals to assess the quality of care in internationally-recognised areas of patient safety risk, including infection prevention and control, and medication safety.
