The purpose of this guide is to provide an understanding of the Health Information and Quality Authority’s (HIQA) approach to the Medication Safety Monitoring Programme in 2019 against the National Standards for Safer, Better Healthcare. The Medication Safety Monitoring Programme aims to examine and positively influence the adoption and implementation of evidence-based practice in relation to medication safety in acute healthcare services in Ireland.

Pre-inspection information request
Description
A pre-inspection information request will be sent to each hospital with the notice of inspection. The purpose of this is to provide background information about the governance arrangements and safety systems and processes in place to support medication safety in the hospital. The pre-inspection information request also outlines documents to be submitted to HIQA before the inspection.
